Legal Remedies for Landlords

When tenants become non-compliant with their rental duties, there are legal remedies for landlords that can be applied to correct the specific tenant breach. These remedies are provided as part of the law that governs landlord-tenant relationships.

As a landlord, it is vitally important to familiarize yourself with the specific landlord-tenant laws for your area. This way, should the need arise, you'll be able to protect yourself legally and minimize problems with tenants.

The following chart is for "information only". The left column provides a general outline of the various types of tenant rental breaches that can occur. The right column outlines the possible landlord remedies** that may be available to legally correct those breaches. The landlord remedies in your own particular state or locality may differ from the remedies shown.

Please note; the above information chart is general in nature and should not be considered legal advice. It should not be relied upon for your own particular circumstances. For legal advice, please consult the services of an attorney who is licensed to practice law in your jurisdiction.

For more information about landlord legal remedies, please visit The Landlord's Library book collection. It's a terrific resource for helping you to increase your success as a residential landlord.
